Ms. Jane Davis, Media and K-12 Technology Coordina-
tor for Hershey Public Schools, is NETA’s recipient of
the 2007 Excellence in Leading with Technology
Award. In her 22 years in education, Jane has truly
been in the forefront of implementing technology into
the school environment in ways that are productive for
teachers and educationally sound for students.
Local Achievements As part of her responsibilities at Hershey, Jane’s local achievements include:
- The implementation of a 1:1 student laptop initiative. Through her proposal, each student in grades 9-12, teachers in grades 7-12, adminis- trators and board members have their own laptop. Two additional laptop carts for K-8 students are also available. In addition to hardware, she helped to identify software applications to purchase, selected a course management portal, planned training schedules, secured a new centrally managed wireless infrastructure and increased the IT staff.
- Provided training for implementation of research-based instructional strategies into their curriculum for staff grades 7-12. Jane wrote the grant that provided teachers at Hershey with LCD projectors in their classrooms.
- Worked with staff to learn new software applications and integrate technology into student learning so that they can be more effective and productive teachers.
- Integrated PowerSchool, a student information system, into the school district.
- Implemented over $650,000 in competitive grant awards, all relating to educational technology and curriculum integration
Statewide Leadership
Ms. Davis has been active on numerous state-wide committees and has shown her leadership at the state level in the following ways:
- Served as a consultant in the utilization of PowerSchool to state-wide schools.
- Served on the planning committee where she helped developed the annual Nebraska PowerSchool User’s Group meetings.
- Has presented at the Nebraska Educational Technology Association conference in the spring. Jane will be recognized at the NETA spring conference general session on Friday, April 27, 2007.
